Center for Older Adults @ the Jewish Center of Teaneck
In 1952 the Jewish Center of Teaneck formed a group called Horeynu, "Our Parents." It provided them with activities and classes’ oil painting, ceramic and mosaic crafts, sewing and comradary. For 5 hours, once a week on Tuesdays they would meet for fellowship and fun. Birthday were always celebrated. Over the years this program evolved into a Kosher nutrition program, supported by the Bergen County Division on Aging providing nutritious hot daily lunches from the "Daughters of Miriam Nursing Home”, and more recently from “The Home at Rockledge”.
Since then the program has been coordinated under the egress of UJC of Bergen County and then UJA of Northen NJ. The program is now functioning under a grant from the UJANNJ to the JCC on the Palisades which runs the Social portion of the the program and is geared to meet the needs of todays seniors.
Over the past 20 years, our Center has maintained and increased the physical well-being and nutritional needs of our Seniors. We strive to maximize opportunities for socialization, facilitate intellectual stimulation, encourage community involvement and provide a daily kosher nutritional meal.
