On Sunday, February 24, Edith Sobel will visit the Jewish Center once again and review the Michael Chabon book The Yiddish Policemen’s Union as part of our Likro B’Yachad book review series. This inventive novel tells of a homicide detective, Meyer Landsman, solving a murder mystery, while the world around him goes topsy turvy. What’s different about this story? Just that it takes place in a Jewish enclave in Sitka, Alaska, where WWII Jewish refugees settled in the wake of the Holocaust, thinking that the fledgling State of Israel would soon be toppled. Now, 60 years later, their little province is set to revert to Alaskan control. Michael Chabon is a highly acclaimed author, and there is no one better than Edith Sobel to review this book for us.
